That's the donations closed and a BIG, BIG, thank you to everyone who donated. The total is standing at $1056 which is a fantastic amount of money raised for Child's Play.

Now onto the next part; over the next few days or so Arid and I will be getting the nitty gritty of the draw fixed. Unfortunately we're still waiting on a few model contributions coming in which have been delayed by the Christmas holidays and as soon as these are in we will make the draw.

As previously intimated the winner will announced here, the Relicnews forums, Bolter and Chainsword and via email; so please ensure that when we do make the draw that you are able to confirm the amount you donated and when. The email address that we will notify will be the same one your donation was made from.

WOO! We've broken the magical $1000 milestone!! Many thanks to all of you who have donated so far, sorry about the lack of finished miniatures but the joys of being self employed + Christmas orders = VERY late nights for the last three weeks! However, we have decided, as a wee sorry, to extend the double entries for every donation incentive for an extra 24 hours, so.....

So, this is it, we are now live for donations!!

Donating money to this worthy cause is simple, just click on the ChipIn widget to the right; enter how much you want to donate and follow the instructions.

Between now and Christmas Eve (24th December) for every dollar you donate to Child's Play, we will place your name into the hat twice for a chance to receive:

The Draw

The draw will take place on the 4th January 2012, with the winner being notified on here, The Relicnews Forums, Bolter and Chainsword and via email.

So, to get into who we are, and why we decided to start this up.

The Who, the What, the Why

Every one of those who contributed models so far has been a member of the Relicnews Forums, which is a site dedicated to everything Relic, who of course are the makers of the Dawn of War series, as well as the new Space Marine game. The forum has a charity drive for Child's Play every year, in which the members of the forums donate money to the charity directly to aid and better the lives of sick children by donating games and toys to hospitals all over the world.

The small but dedicated Tabletop section decided to up the ante this year, and by following the inspiration set by the guys who did the Storm Wardens and Heroes of Armageddon projects, we asked for volunteers to gather their spare space marines, paint them up in the colours of Blood Ravens (the main protagonists of the Dawn of War games), and contribute to the project.

Originally, we viewed this as a small incentive to increase the amount of money the forums raise each year, but as the willing number of volunteers got bigger, we knew we had to expand our vision.

And so, we now offer you all the chance to donate to this amazing cause, and in doing so win a full sized ready to go army. Not many people can say that they managed to get a great space marine army for only $1!!

Remember though, the more money you donate, the more chances you have to win and the more you are helping to improve the lives of sick kids all over the world!

Hey guys, AridMonk here, just letting you all know that the first models have arrived with me, and they are awesome

Was all giddy schoolboy when I went to open them up...

Gubbins has done an amazing job with these, and I thank him wholeheartedly for his generous contribution to this endeavour.

Really looking forward to getting more through the post now, will keep you updated and will soon show you guys some of the finished pictures of my contributions when I actually get them finished!!!

Starting to Come Together

It's been a little while since we've posted anything but things are slowly but surely starting to come together on the army front.

CancerMan has posted a picture of the Scout Biker Squad he's donating and hopefully there'll be some more pics to come as more of the army is completed.

On the subject of the army; we've been trying to drum up support from various companies to add a few goodies to the pot. We're still waiting on replies but if anyone wants to help out in this department, please get in touch.

It's also looking as if we're getting some more folks from the forum willing to give up their time and their models to the Project. Many, many thanks. The more the merrier.

Timelines and Other Important Stuff

When we first started discussing the possibility of raising money for Child's Play through a painting competition, there were a few things that we needed to get sorted out; if anyone was interested in helping and what type of army we would build amongst others.

Thankfully we managed to get nine guys from the forums who were not only willing to give up their time; but who would either donate the models they had pledged from their own collections or buy them especially for the project.

One of the guys, AridMonk, also offered to act as the point of distribution and to add the final touches such as decals and basing to ensure that the army has a 'uniform' feel to it. The next thing was to ensure that we had a timeline to work to. So far we're on schedule, with the folks taking part having between now and the 1st September to get their models painted and shipped to Arid. That sounds like a long time away but it's actually only leaving around four months for us to raise the profile of the project and get folks interested in contributing, and it is important for a couple of reasons: to ensure that the models are painted to the highest standard possible and to get everything together for when we open the fundraising part of the project.

This is designed to coincide with the Relic News Forums annual Appeal on behalf of Child's Play, and anything we raise here will be added to their total.

There's a stark reality here; we're up against similar charity projects being run by various other folks on the internet, most notably the Heroes of Armageddon army build, and there is a real chance that a form of 'charity fatigue' may occur which will affect our efforts. All that means in reality, is that we're going to have to work twice as hard to ensure that we can raise our profile, and that's where we'd like to ask you to help.

This is a test mini put together very quickly by one of the guys who's taking part, Skrzyp.

He also came up with a paint scheme for everyone to follow so that there's some uniformity about the project.

Armor color: Red Gore
Shoulder color: Bleached Bone
Trim: Chaos Black
Eyes: Green (Snot/Goblin Green?)
Bolters: Boltgun Metal with Chaos Black casings
Fancy Bits: Gold

More to come on the bases; but all of the minis will be getting sent to a central point for basing.

What We're About

Hi folks and welcome to the Child's Play Charity Army Build.

Basically, we are a bunch of gamers from the Relic News Forums who decided to get together for a painting competition with a difference, one where we would donate our finished models to try and make an army that we could sell or auction, with all of the proceeds going to the Child's Play Charity that the Forums support every year in the run up to Christmas.

This kinda snowballed and it turned out that we now have over 3300 points of Blood Ravens to build, paint and try to make money from.

Now if this sounds like you've heard something like this before, you have. The inspiration for the project came from the Storm Wardens project that ran last year for Doctors Without Borders. A big thank you to those guys; you showed 40k isn't just about geeky guys with toy soldiers. It's about big hearted geeky guys with toy soldiers.

Over the next few weeks or so we'll be starting to post pics of the army as it is being painted and profiles of the folks who are taking part. We'll also be adding details about how we're going to ask you to contribute.
